I shipped it in three components, two large cabinets and the roulette wheel.  All in all it was a heavy piece, but; I felt shipping it in this manner made for an easier install. Installs are always the most stressful aspect of any job. Being 1700 miles from the home base meant we had to have not only a good plan, but a well designed piece. From arrival and unpacking to final once over we spent two hours tweaking this piece into position.

]]>Las Vegashttp://www.peglegstudio.com/news/2011/8/14/las-vegas.htmlStephen Evans2011-08-14T16:51:18ZJust got back from visiting this jobsite.  We're producing the final 3-D renderings for this concept and presenting them on Tuesday.  Provided no changes we're moving into production next week.  I'll post the renderings after the meeting.  We'll be documenting the process of producing this piece so you'll be able to compare the manufacturing pics against the rendering.  This ought to give a cool behind the scenes look into the world of custom wood fabrication.

What are we building?  A reception desk.  It has an approximate footprint of 6' by 13'.  Featuring a roulette wheel, torsion box construction, and tamo, sycamore, and mahogony veneer.

 

]]>Boundary Road Restaurant, Wash. DChttp://www.peglegstudio.com/news/2011/8/14/boundary-road-restaurant-wash-dc.htmlStephen Evans2011-08-14T16:35:53ZThis project has moved along quite a bit since my last update.  Construction is under way and the Grand Opening is set for November 2011.

I have the pleasure of being involved in the design of the interior fabric of the space.  My inspriration for the woodwork is based on a fusion of japanese architecture and neo gothicism, with a little modernism to blend it all together.  We're using reclaimed materials throughout the space.  The floors and bar are all made from urban timber, as are the counters and bar tops.  The trim and other architectural features are either reclaimed materials or antique beams.  Call it a contemporary take on traditional forms if you want to define the aesthetic.  I call it warm and inviting without pretension, interesting to the eye, but subtle in the details.

We've put months of effort into creating an environment that offers a pleasing and balanced environment for Chef Brad Walkers regional cuisine.  If you haven't spent time in Washington than you're not familiar with the sophisticated cocktail and cusine culture that thrives there.  Small organic farms and ranches produce high quality products that are found throughout the menu.  They're not putting all their attention into design and food though, I'm assured that the beer menu will feature top notch micro brews from around the country.

I'm beginning the process of fabricating the bar tops and bar facade now.  I'll post some behind the scenes photos of these elements being produced.  Check back in late August for more.

]]>Las Vegas Reception Desk!!http://www.peglegstudio.com/news/2011/6/29/las-vegas-reception-desk.htmlStephen Evans2011-06-29T13:30:38ZA privately held company is expanding it's operation in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Their new headquarters is a modern glass and steel structure they've designed and commissioned from the ground up.  As first impressions are important they spent months shopping for the right firm to design and build their new reception desk.  I've teamed up with Turner Custom Furniture for this project and together we were able to pitch an original design that was the right synthesis of fashion and function.  Check back in late July as we'll be releasing the 3-D renders of this project and documenting the fabrication process on Facebook.

I'll be posting updates on Facebook as we move through the design process.  To this end I've been in DC all week getting to know the building, the culture, and the tastes of those involved.  The doors are set to open in November so check back often as this project is moving quick!
