High Museum of Art - Atlanta

It was my great pleasure to welcome Art Partners to the studio on November 7th, 2011.  I've been looking forward to this event for some time and was honored to have so many guests.  More than 50 attended!  This wasn't a workshop exhibit so much as a display of the creative process as it exists with my methodology.

Ada Shore and Irma Terry patiently pursued their goal of providing a worthy venue for the High Museums guests.  For my part I created a small exhibit of completed works, prototypes, and works in progress spanning 5 years of effort.  Both commissioned and studio furnishings were featured along with a number of sculptural works and texture and color studies as well.  It's my hope that more events such as this will take place in the future and maybe even another event with Art Partners.

If you live in Atlanta, take the time to check out this organization.  This is your chance to get behind the scenes in the Atlanta Art World.  Studio visits, private collections, private museum tours fill the yearly calender.  With an even nearly every weekend there's bound to be something to grab your interest.  Proceeds from membership and events go to support the High.

If you haven't been to the High as of late nows your chance!  The Lorenzo Piano extension is five years old and has played host to a number of international level exhibits.  The Dali exhibit is getting raves across the country.  As far as the permanent collection is concerned one of my favorite artists, Gerhardt Richter has a number of works now in the collection.  Take the time to find the John Henry Belter furnishings on the mezzanine in the main building.  Look closely at the edges and you'll see the laminated rosewood plys that were built-up over a form.  Essentially, plywood..in the 1850's!  If you're familiar with Eames Chairs..the techniques are not too dissimilar..a hundred years apart.

Thanks again to Art Partners for all their hard work and bringing their guests to my studio for a few hours of socializing.
